Independent Drug Testing and Forensic Services (IDTAFS) was created in 1998 in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the purpose of aiding law enforcement. IDTAFS is a product of a former laboratory Drug Detection Services, Inc established in 1984 for the purpose of drug testing. After working with law enforcement for 14 years primarily with the Department of Corrections, the need for a full service forensic lab was seen and FACT was created. Taking on toxicology as a discipline in the forensics lab, drug testing was acquired from Drug Detection Services and expanded into forensic services. The experience and expertise acquired since 1984 and the relationship with the Courts and the community at large – business, industry, rehabilitation centers, schools, and private individuals – made the creation of IDTAFS possible. Each day IDTAFS expands and anticipates becoming a full service forensic lab with all disciplines available in the very near future – working 24 hours a day 7 days a week and employing many scientists with a wide range of degrees. IDTAFS is a source for educational facilities for internships and has helped in the creation of forensic programs at Central New Mexico Community College, and Highlands University. IDTAFS provides space for Apollo College for externships for technologist to complete there degree in laboratory degrees. IDTAFS is associated with many professional affiliations such as American Society of Industrial Security, FBI Infragard, and sit as an advisor to Apollo College. Personnel of IDTAFS have testified as expert witnesses since 1984 and have always been accepted in the courts as experts in the field.
